I’m Raphaël, an ocean scientist based in Los Angeles. With over 10 years of experience, I lead ocean research projects to reduce uncertainties in global carbon budget, help preserve coastal ecosystems and improve water quality across water bodies. I also bring a creative eye to my work—whether it’s crafting impactful visualizations or designing clean, engaging scientific figures that help the data speak for itself.

Charting Riverine Carbon’s Impact on the Global Ocean with a data-assimilative model

Accounting for carbon and nutrients in rivers is essential for resolving carbon dioxide (CO₂) exchanges between the ocean and the atmosphere. In this study, I added the effect of present-day rivers to a pioneering global-ocean biogeochemistry model. This study highlights the challenge for global ocean numerical models to cover the complexity of the flow of water and carbon across the Land-to-Ocean Aquatic Continuum.
